Spontaneous marks and responses to color akin to that of a jazz musician responding to notes, create this color music. This series began as an experiment of letting go -of releasing control. At the end of a painting session, I began to play, improvising with a palette of colors too rich to throw away. I take a paint scraper and I move it across my pallet I began by letting the paint tell me what it wants to say and the color or “music” it wants to play. The act of suspending my consciousness led me to this new work. The process was spontaneous, intuitive—more listening than directing. I began treating each composition like a piece of music, allowing it to unfold without a script.
Color, like music, is felt as much as seen. Neuroaesthetics—a field studying how the brain perceives visual experience—explores this intersection. Our brains interpret shapes, colors, and compositions much like rhythms or harmonies. This informs my work: minimal in structure, improvisational in execution, and rhythmic in gesture.
